About Sebastian

Who is Sebastian Sanchez?

Born in Australia to Spanish parents, Sebastian Sanchez grew up between two cultures. His parents arrived in Australia as part of the Spanish migration wave of the 1960s and 70s, and his father is from Jerez de la Frontera. Although Spanish culture and flamenco were always present in his life, it was not until his early thirties that he decided to pursue flamenco professionally.

In 2008, Sebastian left Brisbane and moved to Sevilla, Spain, where he immersed himself in the art form and trained intensively with renowned maestros including Andrés Peña, Manuel Betanzos, Rafael Campallo, Ángel Atienza and Alejandro Granados. His years in Andalucía provided not only technical training, but also a deep understanding of the culture, tradition and spirit that underpin flamenco.

Since then, Sebastian has built an international career as a performer, teacher, producer, director and choreographer. He has performed, taught and produced flamenco throughout Europe, Australia and beyond, appearing at major festivals and collaborating with artists from around the world.

His projects include international tours with 4Flamencomen, the Spanish cultural production Poemas de Iberia, and co choreography for works such as Tango Malena Story and Flamenco Capriccios.

With over 20 years of flamenco experience, Sebastian is passionate about sharing authentic flamenco with students of all levels. Today, he divides his time between performing, producing and teaching, helping to grow the flamenco community across Queensland and Northern New South Wales through regular classes, workshops and theatre productions.

By passing on the knowledge, discipline and traditions he learned in Andalucía, Sebastian aims to inspire the next generation of flamenco artists and enthusiasts in Australia.
